Prince at the Tacoma Dome. Pleased and Disappointed, All At The Same Time…
So, as a women in her early 40′s, who has never seen Prince live, one could imagine how excited I was about Prince coming to the Tacoma Dome on Dec. 19, 2011. I requested the following day off, made plans to leave early to beat traffic, and even paid $25 for parking, in addition to my $60 ticket. Yeah, I know, $60 isn’t much for a Prince concert, but that was all I could afford. And even if it meant I would sit waaaay in the back of the stadium, it was fine by me.
My friend Amber and I were beside ourselves, anxious, and giddy with excitement. There were people from all walks of life, young and old, from each corner of the earth, in attendance to see what we all hoped would be the show of our lives.
2 seats from us were 3 elderly women, who were knitting while waiting for the show to begin. Next to us was a woman from Seattle, who, although I don’t know her occupation, based on the conversation, was an executive somewhere.
It seemed that the show had not quite sold out. Upon our arrival, our seats in the 100th (or so) row was upgraded to the 20th row (success!). But as the show was about to begin, the house was filling up rather quickly.
Then it started… Prince, in the flesh, right before my eyes. It was more than I could ask for. He was beautiful, the show was going so good. Then, abruptly, the show was over. Only 1 hour and maybe a 1/2…? Really…?
Talk about disappointed… *pish*
To make it worse, when I went back to work a couple of days later, my co-worker tells me that she was at the after party that was down the street from the Tacoma Dome, ($60 cover), and he played all night long… smh…
I was disappointed, but I was pleased to have finally seen Prince live. Watching him run along the stage with his heels on and play that guitar and sing… I’m just saying, after walking to and from the bus stop to work, and spending the majority of my day at my desk, when I get home, the heels are coming off. Prince was acting like those heels are an extension of his legs… It was great. He is, indeed, quite the entertainer… I was thoroughly impressed.
But, I doubt I would pay to see him again…
